How it works

The whole chain, on one record.

TONE follows a single piece of practical work from the consultation through to the next thing the student is asked to do. This page explains what each person does, and what the software does with it.

The student

Recording the work, at the chair.

Log a model

Before and after photographs, the client's starting point, the technique, the formula, the developer and the timing. It is built for a phone between clients, and a part-finished record is kept as a draft rather than lost.

Attach a head sheet

A drawn record of where the work actually went — zone by zone, section by section — so the educator is reviewing the placement, not guessing it from a photograph.

Save the formula

Formulas are kept in the student's own formula book, so a returning client's previous visit can be found and adjusted rather than reinvented.

Get the model's consent

Model-release forms are signed on the same screen as the record, so a model is never logged without consent having been captured with it.

The educator

Setting the work, and marking it.

Build the learning

Modules, readings, quizzes, case studies, fill-in-the-blank and matching exercises, and practical goals. All of it is yours — TONE supplies the tools, not the syllabus.

Mark practical work

Score against your own categories out of ten, write a critique on the record itself, and sign off techniques as an student becomes reliable at them.

Take the register

Classes, sessions, arrival times and a grace window, so lateness is recorded honestly rather than remembered vaguely.

See who needs you

Models logged, theory attempted, marks given and attendance roll up per student and per class, with the people who have gone quiet surfaced first.

Salon groups

Managers see only who you let them see.

A salon manager can be given a read-only view of the students in their own salon, a hand-picked few, or nobody at all. The educator sets this per manager, and the limit is enforced in the database rather than merely hidden in the interface. Managers can never mark, edit or delete, and a new manager account is approved by the school before it opens.

Honest limits

What TONE does not do.

It is not a qualification

TONE is not an awarding body. It records practical work and your assessment of it; any formal qualification sits outside it.

It does not supply a curriculum

There is no course included with a plan. The reference tools are built in; the teaching content is written by the educator.

It is not fully offline

It installs to the home screen and opens without a connection, but photographs and new records need one. A record is only confirmed once it has reached the server.

See it with data in it.

The demo opens a register with fictional students, a marked model and a quiz.
